Code of Conduct
Full Members of VIANZ agree to the following principles
To advocate on behalf of New Zealanders for equitable access to vaping products and to help educate and support smokers as they try to quit.
Products manufactured, distributed, and imported by VIANZ members do not contain any tobacco. VIANZ members support the policies underpinning the public health objectives of the Tobacco Convention and are committed to helping educate and support smokers as they try to quit.
To stand up strongly against youth vaping and prevent under-18 access by undertaking an under-25 ID policy and mystery shopper ID-check audits to ensure compliance. All retail staff undertake age verification training to prevent the sale of products to under-18s.
Online retailers must ensure they have adequate measures in place to prevent youth from accessing the product. All products dispatched via online sellers should utilise over-18 stickers to ensure courier services conduct an ID check prior to delivery or handing over of the product.
All advertising and product design must not be directed at people under 18 years old or designed to appeal to people under 18 years old.
Product marketing is undertaken for the purpose of educating and advising adult smokers, vapers, and consumers of other nicotine products.
To comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements under the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990 and the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Regulations 2021.
To ensure compliance with the regulations in terms of product quality, manufacturing, and safety standards so that customers can have complete confidence that VIANZ members only retail the best quality vaping products.
Strive to improve best practice across the industry, and behave in a manner that gives regulators, government, public health authorities and consumers’ confidence in the organisation and its members.
To work with regulators to protect consumers from non-registered or poor-quality products and proactively report industry behaviour that is not in line with the regulations.
